Experimental Studies on Modified Bituminous Mixes Using Waste HDPE and Crump Rubber

چکیده

-In hot countries like India roads laid on agricultural zones and other water prone areas will be affected by severed pot holes created due to the water entry in the pavement. Increase in road traffic in combination with insufficient maintenance due to shortage in funds causes rapid deterioration of the roads. To lighten this process, several measures may be effective, such as, use of better quality materials, use of cost-effective construction methods, dedicated funds for maintenance, improved and innovative roadway design. The grade of bitumen produced in India without admixtures are not able to cope up with the extreme weather conditions across our country; there arise a need to reinforce bitumen mixes with proper admixtures. Bitumen admixtures are mostly chemical in nature which will induce health effects to the workers paving the surface with admixture added bitumen. With this perspective, in this study an attempt is made to utilize waste materials such as High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and crumb rubber enhance with flexible pavement quality bitumen. This waste materials can be handled and used successfully in the construction of roads thus mitigating the environmental problems and minimize the cost of construction of roads within the country Various studies are proposed to be conducted with varying the mix ratio of the admixtures with bitumen keeping the maximum level of admixtures to 10% by volume.
